Tournament of Hope

The Tournament of Hope is a proposed golf tournament to take place in South Africa, which is planned to annually occur starting in 2012. The Tournament of Hope will be the fifth World Golf Championship event (WGC) with a planned purse of US$10 million, which at its announcement in April 2011 was richer than any other golf event.[1] The initial contract for the tournament is for five years.[2] This would be the second active World Golf Championships event outside the United States (HSBC Champions is held in China).[3]

The proposed week of the tournament is the first week of December (summer in South Africa). If this week is used, then the Tournament of Hope will conflict with the Chevron World Challenge (hosted by Tiger Woods and sponsored by the United States PGA Tour) and the Nedbank Golf Challenge (sponsored by the Sunshine Tour).[4]
